Paul Graham wrote on Twitter how realizing an email is written by AI makes him stop reading the mail (which is the biggest failure. You’re writing to be read) and think less of the author.
I have the same reaction. Companies think they’re outsmarting the competition by cutting costs by using AI. But by abusing it, they’re creating an allergic reaction from customers force-fed slop and are supposed to like it.
The companies really outsmarting the competition are those that, even when using AI, keep thinking, being creative, and staying curious.
And, writing well — plus the thinking that comes before that — not only sharpens your thoughts, but literally scales what you can accomplish. In fact, failure in organizations often happens because people do not communicate enough and crisply. Good writing fixes that. AI helps you, but if you’re replaced by it, how valuable are you?
